Operation 8

The New Zealand documentary Operation 8: Deep in the Forest (2011) gives insight and evidence to the argument that the police and Helen Clark lead government were acting on sneaky suspicions rather than hard evidence. The film reveals that there are very real political and corporate interests who had sound motivations to make an example of so-called radical political activists and/or dissent to the State. The film goes beyond the scope of this blog but it is important for anthropologists to always be conscious of power relations and question the motivations of key players.
